7 Reasons Why Booking a Prom Limo Gives Parents Peace of Mind

Chances are your teen is trying to get everything perfect for their prom. They’re trying to go with the perfect person, get the perfect outfit, get the perfect haircut, get the perfect photos, get the perfect memory of the night.

But for parents, any prom is perfect as long as the child has an incredible time, and gets home safe.

7 Reasons Why a Prom Limo Gives You Peace of Mind

Parents can give lectures – or have awkward conversations about kids’ plans – but in the end you have to trust kids to be the adults they very nearly are. But that’s easier if a little accountability is built into the night. Booking a limo can seem like just another prom-night expense, but it can help. Here are some of the reasons why.

1. Another person on your team.

With a limo, you can be sure there is a reliable contact with your child, especially if your school does not require a chaperone to be present. Before your child leaves for the night, have a conversation with your driver. Ask the driver to call you if your child appears to have been drinking, or if they feel uncomfortable with any destination.

2. Friends (for you and your child)

Your child’s will be going to prom with a group of friends who can look out for them. You can use this to your advantage by meeting with all the parents of the limo group. If you exchange contact information, you can be sure that for the whole night you have access to other parents as concerned as you are.

3. Your child is likely to have a plan.

A limo gives you confidence your child and their friends has really thought about what they want from their prom night. And the more they’ve thought about it, they’re more likely to have a plan for the evening, and less likely to do something silly on the spur of the moment.

4. They’re not driving distracted…

You may trust your teen not to drink and drive, but driving to prom is still tough for an inexperienced driver. If they’ve got a date in the car, they’re probably nervous – or eager to show off. If they’ve got a group, everyone’s probably excited, and loud. And are you sure they can resist a text from their friends in another car?

In 2011, distracted driving caused over 1 in 6 crashes; in 2012, 421,000 people were injured in crashes that involved distracted driving. Also, handheld phone use by drivers is illegal anywhere in the tri-state area. Not having to drive takes away the risk.

5. …or tired…

The National Sleep Foundation states that young people are an at-risk demographic for sleep-related crashes. Beyond that, they also report that 42% of drivers become stressed when they know they’re driving drowsy.

6. …or with someone who’s been drinking.

The perception that teens are all drinking, all the time, is a myth. Mothers Against Drunk Driving states that 2 out of 3 teens don’t drink alcohol. But a 2013 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention did find that 10% of high school students had driven after drinking in the past 30 days, and 22% rode with a driver who had been drinking alcohol. Much as we might hope otherwise, teenagers can show poor judgment on these issues.

7. It adds to the experience.

When you’re done worrying about them, you want your child to have an incredibly fun and special night. For a teenager, it doesn’t get much more exciting than having a chauffeur arrive at your door, getting into your first limo with your friends, and having your own private party on your way to the prom.

Of course, we also take safety seriously at Luxor. Our drivers are full-time employees who have passed extensive background checks, and are regularly trained in defensive driving—plus we have one of the youngest limo fleets in New York City.
