How to Celebrate Mother's Day in NYC

Mother’s Day is coming up soon on May 12.  Mother’s Day is one of the holidays celebrated worldwide that originated in the US.  It was created by a woman named Anna Jarvis in 1908. She started it as a way of remembering her mother who had passed away.  But she campaigned to make the second Sunday in May a national holiday and it was recognized as such just 6 years later.  In the tradition, people give gifts or offer remembrance for their mothers and grandmothers.

For adult children in New York City who want to give their mother a special treat, Mother’s Day offers them a chance to make her feel like a queen.  Even a woman who is uncomfortable receiving things and attention from her children can accept and enjoy the ‘royal treatment’ on her special day.  Time to hire a limo to pick her up at home and take her to brunch at her favorite restaurant or at one of the many others offering Mother’s Day specials.  Let the chauffeur hand her out at the entry where she can join her family for a memorable meal.

After eating, let the car and driver take the stress while she spends the day on the town with her loved ones doing whatever she enjoys most. If she art is her thing, a day of museum hopping with a driver on call means seeing much more art with so much less fatigue. If shopping is her choice, having a limo to ferry her from door to door takes all the tired out of a day in shops and stores.  Gardens may be her passion and New York offers plenty of places to enjoy nature, whether strolling in Central Park or the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx.

Make sure to leave time for a sweet dessert at one of New York’s many amazing pastry shops like Payard Patisserie or Cafe Lalo, or perhaps a chocolate confection from Max Brenner.

If you didn’t start the day with brunch (or even if you did) perhaps you head out for a show and late dinner on the town.  Even if you try to cram it all in to one day, having time to rest, to talk, to reflect, and refresh between stops in the back seat of a limo or hired car means she’ll have the energy enough to do it all and enjoy herself for a magnificent and unforgettable Mother’s Day.

Avoid the Wet Blanket Effect for Your Day in NYC with a Hired Car and Driver

New York city gets well over 4 inches of rain almost every month of the year. In fact, NYC is clear only about 132 days out of 365. The chances of a nice day hover around one in three, so when planning a day out and about in the city, whether shopping or doing business, you would be more right if you imagined the day wet than if you planned on it being dry.  And rain can weigh you down like, well, a wet blanket, if you let it.

Picture two different days for yourself. In one, you’re sweating in a wet slicker on a hot summer afternoon or shivering in damp overcoat trying to hail a cab in a winter downpour.  Rain follows you inside wherever you go with soggy socks and dripping hair. Getting around becomes a chore, and the last thing you want to do is go back outside in it. You go out anyway and search desperately for an available taxi, spy one and dash for it only to get splashed by a passing car. Meanwhile someone else grabs the cab before you get there.  Your umbrella turns inside-out in the wind. You are not happy.

Now change the picture a bit.  Imagine that there is a car waiting just outside the door for you everywhere you go, a car with a driver who owns an umbrella and can whisk you from entryway to passenger seat in a few steps.  You’re dry and comfortable as the chauffeur takes you to your next destination.  You have time to relax and regain your energy, your enthusiasm, your enjoyment before the next foray.

Which day would you choose?

Shopping.  Sightseeing.  Business.  All of it transforms with a car and driver at your disposal.  Chances are, if you are spending the day in New York going from place to place, you’re planning a big day.  You may have flown in for a vacation or are looking to close a deal.  You can’t control the weather, but you can be in control of the quality of your day.  With a hired car, you arrive fresh at every destination.  You’re dry and relaxed.  You exude the confidence that comes with the absence of minor irritations and distractions.  Try hiring a car and driver for your next day on the town and you will never look back.

Personal Car Service for Women on Business

One of the largest growing segments of the business travel industry is women.  Where once business travel was almost exclusively done by men, it is women who are joining the ranks of the frequent flyer elites. Women have concerns and preferences that differ from those of their male counterparts and are demanding a change in procedures to go with that.

One big concern for women travelers in unfamiliar territory is security.  If your travel takes you to Greater New York City, give yourself the security and efficiency of a hired car and driver from Luxor Limousines.   As one female exec said about her experience with Luxor: “Luxor's driver was prompt, courteous, price was right and I felt very safe. As a woman who travels occasionally alone this is important to me.”

Even if you do know NYC, running from appointment to appointment in the high heels that are considered part of a woman’s standard business attire can be doubly exhausting.  A hired car and driver will relieve the stress and allow business to continue between appointments without wasting time and energy looking for a cab, walking, or taking public transit.  For these reasons, the most productive decision a woman who knows her own worth can make is to hire a car and driver to take the extra worry and stress off her plate.

Delays in the Air? No Problem on the Ground.

The federal budget sequester has meant delays and canceled flights at all airports.  The last think you need is more delay or hassles for the ground portion of your travel plans.  With a reservation for an airport car and driver with Luxor, we make sure to keep tabs on your flight so that we get you there or pick you up at the right time.

If the flight is delayed and the new time is posted on the airline website, we will reschedule our limo service automatically at no extra charge. If your flight lands on time but is delayed getting to the gate, then we give you a grace period of 30 minutes for domestic flights and 45 minutes for international flights before charging a surcharge.

Likewise, if your flight arrives early, something that can happen especially on long international flights, we will make sure to be there for you so long as the airline has kept its website updated.  As Orla Stafford said on arriving from Dublin,  "On a recent trip to New York, my Boyfriend and I used Luxor to pick us up from JFK. Our flight landed 40 mins ahead of schedule. When we came through arrivals, Luxor's driver was there to meet us. He had been checking for our flight and made sure to be there on time.”

Make Your Wedding Guests Feel Like VIPs with an Airport Limo Pickup

Yes, it’s your wedding, but you want it to be a special day for everyone.  One of the first things you probably arranged is for the wedding limo service for the bride and groom on the big day. Perhaps you've also made plans for hired cars to transport the wedding party to the chapel or reception.  But the wedding celebration really starts way before the walk down the aisle.  A wedding is about your whole community of friends and family gathering, sometimes at great expense, to celebrate with you.  You may be so overwhelmed as the day draws near that you don't have time to take care of the niceties, but you can plan a few things in advance to reciprocate and honor them.

One simple and sure way to make the out-of-town members of the wedding party feel special is with an airport pickup.  Now, you and your local crew is going to be crazy busy, and sending someone will most likely mean a frantic drive in the middle of all the other plans.  So hire a limo service that does airport pickups to collect your friends and family on arrival. Let a professional hired car service like Luxor Limousines not only take away the stress, but deliver a first-class welcome, setting the tone for an unforgettable wedding that everyone will remember fondly.

FIVE TIPS FOR A VIP WELCOME FOR YOUR WEDDING PARTY AND GUESTS

1- Make sure the hired limousine company does a meet-and-greet airport pickup at baggage claim or customs.  Nothing says “VIP traveler” more than a chauffeur with a sign for the party waiting arriving.

2- Make sure the driver will be professionally dressed.  The effect is ruined if the person waiting looks scruffy.

3- Make sure the driver speaks English (or whatever language your party speaks.)

4- Make sure there will be refreshments if your guests are coming from far away.

5- Find out how much luggage is involved, as different vehicles have different capacities for handling bags.

If you can schedule the arrivals to coincide, a comfortable limo or party van where everyone can wait in comfort and enjoy each other’s company while awaiting the last arrivals.  And if by chance you have the time to go out to the airport to meet someone special, rather than drive yourself, ride the limo yourself and spend the drive into town toasting to your friends and your future.

Ten Questions to Ask When Hiring a Limo

If you are a going to spend the money for a limousine for a single night out or hiring transportation , how do you balance cost and quality?  How can you avoid over paying on one hand, but also how do you avoid the many nightmares that come up when you cut too many corners. Even if you can get your money back, you can’t fix a ruined wedding or night on the town.

Here are ten questions that will help you separate the good from the bad so you can negotiate your best price among professionals, confident that whoever you pick from the list will be an asset and not a liability to your plans.

Does the company own its own fleet?  Not just one or two cars, but at least 15 vehicles that they maintain themselves. This guarantees a professionally managed company that you can depend upon to have your vehicle of choice in top condition.
Does the company work with business clients or do corporate events?  If so, you know they must be reliable and professional in their dealings.
Has the company been in business for at least 10 years? All businesses have cycles, and bad economic times weed out the unprofessional and poorly managed companies.
Is the company registered and licensed with the Taxi and Limousine Commission of New York?  Rent an unlicensed limo and if anything happens, at the least, the police will impound the vehicle leaving you stranded. At the most, you might not be insured for any injuries.
Is there someone you can call 24/7 in case of problems and will that person have the authority to make decisions?  If you don’t know where the limo is and call, only to get an answering service, you are stuck waiting for someone to get back to you.
Will the driver be dressed in a uniform?  You want a company that has standards for its drivers and considers the job a profession, hence the uniform.
Will the driver be a person who speaks English? Even though you may not have conversations with your driver, you do want to be able to communicate about any difficulties or change of plans without the frustration of a language barrier.
What are the extra time fees?  For an airport pickup, you won’t have control over the flight being late.  For a night on the town, you might want to check out one more club before heading home.  You need to know what these fees are up front.
What are your cleaning fees?  Nobody wants to cause a problem, but people do get carsick, or sometimes party a little too hard, and you should know what these fees are before you go out for the night.
Can you see the vehicles you will hire? Not all stretch Cadillacs are the same.  Age and maintenance can drastically alter the ‘feel’ of a ride.  If you really care about the quality of the experience, you should be able to check out the car beforehand.  Even if you choose not to actually go to the garage, being able to is in itself a kind of guarantee.
