Bronx for a Day

If you need to get out of town for a bit, but don’t have enough time to hop on a plane and truly get away, try heading to another of the nearby NYC boroughs, like the Bronx, for a fun daycation. There’s a lot to explore in the northernmost borough, but we narrowed it down to a few enjoyable activities to do for an exciting day in the Bronx.

Yankee Stadium

1 E 161st St.

The new Yankee Stadium opened in 2009 and is already a New York City attractions staple. The stadium has dynamic views regardless of where you sit, as well as tons of awesome restaurants, bars, and activities. Aside from the history of the Yankees, baseball itself is one of America’s favorite pastimes and the perfect place to bring a significant other or just have fun with the whole family. It may not be the original Polo Grounds, but the new stadium does its best to uphold the team’s history, and the spirit of the Yankees is very much alive among the fans in attendance.

The Bronx Brewery

856 E 136th St.

Though this brewery is a bit off of the beaten path, they have incredibly brewed beers on tap and are favored for their American Pale and Rye Pale. Most people stop by this hidden gem if they’re headed to a Yankee’s game for a few pre-game brews. There’s also a sprawling outdoor space (and incredible Summer Pale Ale) for the warmer months and a small tasting room during the chillier days.

Bronx Zoo Wildlife Conservation Society

2300 Southern Blvd

This trek to the zoo is 100% worth the trip. With over 5,000 adorable creatures and an extensive array of exhibits, you can spend hours exploring and learning about their plethora of insects and mammals. Watch the sea lions being fed their lunch or learn about the flight of butterflies as you walk around this gorgeous wonderland. The World of Birds, the World of Reptiles, and the Congo Gorilla Forest come highly recommended, but then again, so do the other 38 acres of various attractions.

New York Botanical Garden

2900 Southern Blvd

One of the most beautiful spots in all of the New York boroughs, the Botanical Gardens has been an oasis in the city for over 40 years, and there’s always a new gorgeous flower to learn about upon each visit. One could spend all day exploring the pumpkin exhibit or Japanese garden, and this lush paradise is also home to some of the oldest trees in the city. If you’re looking for a place to escape and gain some peace of mind, this cherished green space is a superb place to re-center and hear yourself think once more.
