Ten Questions to Ask When Hiring a Limo

If you are a going to spend the money for a limousine for a single night out or hiring transportation , how do you balance cost and quality? How can you avoid over paying on one hand, but also how do you avoid the many nightmares that come up when you cut too many corners. Even if you can get your money back, you can’t fix a ruined wedding or night on the town.

Here are ten questions that will help you separate the good from the bad so you can negotiate your best price among professionals, confident that whoever you pick from the list will be an asset and not a liability to your plans.

Does the company own its own fleet? Not just one or two cars, but at least 15 vehicles that they maintain themselves. This guarantees a professionally managed company that you can depend upon to have your vehicle of choice in top condition.

Does the company work with business clients or do corporate events? If so, you know they must be reliable and professional in their dealings.

Has the company been in business for at least 10 years? All businesses have cycles, and bad economic times weed out the unprofessional and poorly managed companies.

Is the company registered and licensed with the Taxi and Limousine Commission of New York? Rent an unlicensed limo and if anything happens, at the least, the police will impound the vehicle leaving you stranded. At the most, you might not be insured for any injuries.

Is there someone you can call 24/7 in case of problems and will that person have the authority to make decisions? If you don’t know where the limo is and call, only to get an answering service, you are stuck waiting for someone to get back to you.

Will the driver be dressed in a uniform? You want a company that has standards for its drivers and considers the job a profession, hence the uniform.

Will the driver be a person who speaks English? Even though you may not have conversations with your driver, you do want to be able to communicate about any difficulties or change of plans without the frustration of a language barrier.

What are the extra time fees? For an airport pickup, you won’t have control over the flight being late. For a night on the town, you might want to check out one more club before heading home. You need to know what these fees are up front.

What are your cleaning fees? Nobody wants to cause a problem, but people do get carsick, or sometimes party a little too hard, and you should know what these fees are before you go out for the night.

Can you see the vehicles you will hire? Not all stretch Cadillacs are the same. Age and maintenance can drastically alter the ‘feel’ of a ride. If you really care about the quality of the experience, you should be able to check out the car beforehand. Even if you choose not to actually go to the garage, being able to is in itself a kind of guarantee.
