Empire State Building

The 102-story skyscraper was one of the world’s tallest buildings for almost 40 years until it was topped by the original World Trade Center. Regardless of height, the building is still a cultural icon and a National Historic Landmark. It is perhaps most iconic from its appearance in King Kong in which the title character climbs to the top to escape his captors before falling to his death. Many visitors photograph the building either from 28th Street or as they get closer to 34th Street.

A gift from the French, this copper statue and New York attraction is situated on Liberty Island south of Ellis Island, where many immigrants passed through on their journey to America. It should also be noted that there is a fee to climb the staircase within the crown, and visitors must reserve a ticket up to a year in advance.
